The in-app assistant

In progress

Ask why a charge is what it is, in plain words. Read-only for now, and on the web only.

What works today

Explain this charge. If you manage your household's account, the What I owe card on your family home lists your recent charges, each with an Explain button. The club's treasurer gets the same button on every charge line of a family's statement under Dues.

Press it and the assistant reads that charge back — its line items (fees, discounts, tax), the period it covers, and the arithmetic the club's system recorded when it posted it — and tells you why the number is what it is. "You joined on 4 February, so you paid for 25 of February's 28 days" is the kind of answer it gives. It never recomputes or estimates a number: if the record does not explain something, it says so and points you to the club.

You can keep asking in the same panel — about your family, this week's schedule, what you owe. The conversation lasts as long as the panel is open.

What is not built yet

  • It is read-only. It cannot pay, change, cancel or send anything; it tells you where in the app to do that.
  • Web only. It is not in the mobile app yet.
  • No history. Close the panel and the conversation is gone. Nothing you ask is stored by the club except the fact that you asked.

If the club has not switched the assistant on, or it cannot answer, the panel says the assistant is unavailable — nothing was answered, and nothing changed.

The rule it is built to

The assistant acts strictly as you. It can never reach data or take an action that the interface would deny you. A parent asking it about the roster gets their own family. A coach asking about billing gets nothing, because a coach has no billing capability.

That is not a policy the assistant is asked to follow — every record it reads goes through the same permission checks as the screens, as you. There is no assistant back door.
